Originally from Yanceyville, I studied Electrical Engineering at Duke before serving in the U.S. Navy's nuclear submarine force, where I worked within tightly constrained, safety-critical systems that demanded precision and accountability.
After the military I led product development and innovation initiatives in the energy and building technology sectors at Shell and Carrier, working at the intersection of infrastructure, data, and operational reality.
After leaving Houston with my family to ride out Covid in Blowing Rock, we realized it was time to come home.
For most of my career my efforts were pointed somewhere else entirely. This is the first time I've been able to aim it at home - where I can see firsthand how often mountain communities lack the visibility and feedback loops that complex systems require. Small risks compound quietly here. Until they do not.
